The Verification Process for Special Settings (VPSS) is an advanced certification process that authorizes the subject matter competence of secondary special education and alternative setting teachers teaching in multiple core subject areas. VPSS training allows eligible teachers to become “Highly Qualified”, a process teachers must complete within three (3) years from the point of assignment.

VPSS Science Tier I - July 12 - 16, 2010

VPSS Science Tier II - July 19 - 23, 2010

LAUSD is pleased to offer three subjects of VPSS Tier I and Tier II training. VPSS offers Tier I and II training for English/Language Arts, Mathematics, and Social Sciences. The cost is $400 per tier. The cost is waived for eligible LAUSD teachers.

Benefits of VPSS training:

  • An advanced certification process that authorizes the subject matter competence of secondary special education and alternative setting teachers teaching in more than one core subject area
  • Participants will gain an understanding of the subject matter contained in the Social Science Content Standards for CA, the California Standards for the Teacher Profession, and the CSET
  • Multiple assessment components to develop a conceptual understanding of the content
  • Interactive learning activities with professionals in similar educational settings
  • Customized instruction which builds upon the background knowledge of the participants
  • Personalized interaction and feedback from an expert who provides strategies proven to assist students in an alternative setting
  • One (1) salary point credit per tier
  • Free to eligible LAUSD teachers
