Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists Program Administrator and Program Specialists in implementing New Teacher Center’s (NTC) Formative Assessment System (FAS) for new teacher development of program participants.
  • Supports teachers in completing the FAS induction requirements, necessary for recommendation of their clear credential.
  • Assists and supports teachers in maintaining and submitting required program documentation for Mid-Year and End-of-Year Review.
  • Supports teachers in deepening their understanding and application of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) and the Teacher Growth and Development Cycle (TGDC).
  • Supports teachers in learning and implementing the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and facilitating opportunities for observations of exemplary practice.
  • Supports teachers in co-planning, modeling co-teaching, and conducting demonstration lessons designed to meet the needs of all students.
  • Supports and facilitates teacher learning in the proficient use of technology in connection with the implementation of the CCSS.
  • Assists and supports teachers in reflecting on and analyzing their practice consistent with the NTC-FAS Induction Model.
  • Supports and facilitates teachers in analysis of data to inform classroom practice by using a variety of data sources, including MyData, CORE-K12, state and District assessment data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Requirements:
  • At least five (5) years of successful full-time public school teaching experience
  • A valid California Teaching Credential authorizing K-12 service
  • English Learner Authorization
  • A valid California driver license and the ability to travel to other sites and locations throughout the District
  • Desirable Skills:
  • Single Subject Clear Credential in Math, Science, English Language Arts, or Social Science
  • Knowledge of elementary or secondary classroom instruction and pedagogy
  • Knowledge of the Formative Assessment System for working with beginning teachers
  • Knowledge of California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP)
  • Knowledge of Common Core State Standards and the Teacher Growth and Development Cycle (TGDC)
  • Knowledge of theories of new teacher development, adult learning theory, and reflective practice
  • Knowledge of LAUSD instructional initiatives
  • Experience in a leadership position(s) in schools and offices
  • Extensive experience in mentoring, coaching, and delivering professional development
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong skills in the use of technology, including the implementation of instructional technology in the classroom.

    Assignment Limitation: The Teacher Adviser position and the person serving in the position are subject to annual review by the immediate supervisor, employees may serve in such positions for a maximum of five consecutive years.
