Since the initial passage of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), private school students and teachers have been eligible to participate in certain Federal education programs, as reauthorized by The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB).

Title II, Part A – Teacher Quality: This part of Title II combines federal funding from the previously authorized Eisenhower and Class Size Reduction programs. This program is intended to increase student achievement by providing professional development to improve teacher and principal quality and increase the number of highly qualified teachers in the classroom and highly qualified principals in the schools.

Students and teachers at private non profit schools located within the attendance areas of the Los Angeles Unified School District are eligible for services under this program. The Workforce Management Section of the Certificated Employment Operations Division provides coordination for the compliance requirements and professional development services for Title II, Part A.
