The No Child Left Behind requires all teachers to be NCLB compliant in each core academic subject taught. Teachers must have a bachelor’s degree, state certification and demonstrate subject matter competency in each core academic subject taught.

A state certification is a Regular Credential, District Intern Credential or University Intern Credential. The Individual Internship Certificate is no longer accepted as state certification.

The Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) implemented the Individual Internship Certificates (IIC) in March 2003. Recently, on November 2, 2005, the Superior Court of the State of California ruled that teachers who hold IIC’s are no longer in compliance with NCLB. Teachers who hold an IIC must earn a regular credential and demonstrate subject matter competency in each core academic subject taught to be NCLB compliant.
