California “HOUSSE” for “Not New” Teachers


The U.S. Department of Education and The California Department of Education (CDE) approved the California “High Objective Uniform State Standard of Evaluation” (HOUSSE) for teachers identified as “Not New” to demonstrate subject matter competence in core academic subject area(s).

“Not New" teachers are teachers who were granted a District/College Internship, Preliminary or Clear credential on or before June 30th, 2002.

“Not New” teachers must accumulate 100 points in each core academic subject area(s) taught to be identified as Highly Qualified in each field.

The District has utilized current data (i.e. years of experience, Stull l observations, and advanced degrees, etc.) from various Human Resources databases to allocate HOUSSE points to current “Not New” teachers.

The table below displays various activities available for “Not New” teachers to acquire points towards meeting NCLB requirements.
