The Career Ladder office supports 14 Teacher Career Academies comprised of approximately 5,000 students in various ways. TCAs are small learning communities that focus on careers in education through tutoring opportunities, college visits, internships, and academic classes focused on aspects of teaching. While in high school, students are given the opportunity to tutor elementary school students and participate in internships that focus on high need areas of the teaching profession like secondary math, science, and special education.
TCA students are prepared for college with a university outreach component that includes many field trips to college campuses and an overview of the path to college. Students are offered scholarships to help pay for their education while they study to become teachers, along with assistance in gaining employment with the district as teaching assistants. All students who graduate from a Teacher Career Academy are offered early contracts with the district provided that they maintain compliance with employment requirements. Upon graduation from high school, TCA students can join the Career Ladder and receive further support, advisement, and financial assistance in their quest to becoming future teachers.
