Scholarships are granted on a competitive basis to high school students who demonstrate a strong commitment to becoming teachers. Applicants must be high school juniors. The goals of the scholarship program are to support students in completing a bachelor’s degree and credential program, to reimburse educational expenses, and to guide students in the development of skills and competencies necessary to serve as a LAUSD teacher.
A scholarship award of $1,250 is provided annually to those enrolled at a community college. For those enrolled at a university, the scholarship award is $3,000 annually. This annual scholarship is paid through a LAUSD payroll warrant. Therefore, you must be an employee of LAUSD to receive the scholarship; more specifically, you must have a position working directly with students. In return, scholarship recipients must commit to work for LAUSD one year for each year of support received.
