Become a Member
LAUSD employees in Union Bargaining Units B and F may join the Career Ladder. Services are for any eligible member seeking their first 60 units of college credit, a teaching credential, or a pupil personnel services credential for school counselors or school psychologists.

Members may study at any accredited college or university of their choice.

Please note:
The Career Ladder Office does not hire paraeducators and does not offer any course work.

Move up the Ladder
Ladder Level is determined by a combination of: 1) college/university units completed, and 2) Performance Assessments approved. Career Ladder services are available depending on the member's current Ladder Level

Career Ladder members qualify for tuition reimbursement for courses in which they receive a C or better. Reimbursement is granted regardless of a career goal to members at Levels 1 or 2. Members at Levels 3 and 4 must declare a credential goal (i.e. teacher, psychologist, counselor). Reimbursement is based on the number of units completed during a single term and Ladder Level at time of reimbursement request. PAs must be approved two weeks prior to reimbursment due dates in order to apply to Ladder Level.

Performance Assessments
Performance Assessments (PAs) are based on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. PAs are activities designed to allow paraeducators to practice teaching skills under the direction of classroom teachers. Completing a PA helps focus and structure classroom experience so participants may develop the tools and confidence needed to become successful teachers.

This instrument is not a job performance evaluation.

Become a Teacher
Level 5 Career Ladder members can receive hiring assistance upon completion of their credential. Hiring Assistance consists of advisement on the LAUSD application process, job interview skills, and preferential availability listing to those who meet all of LAUSD's hiring requirements.
