Until further notice, Early Childhood Education is not accepting applications for teachers, substitute teachers, aides or substitute aides.

  • All LAUSD employees must get an updated TB test every four years.
  • It is the teacher's responsibility to keep his/her CPR and First Aid cards up to date.
  • Submit any updated documents to Early Childhood Education Human Resources Unit.


Certificated Positions

Teacher

Until further notice, a hiring freeze is in effect for all contracted teacher positions.

Employment Requirements:

  • AA degree or higher
  • 3 semester units of English: college reading and composition
  • 24 semester units of child development course work (3 units infant/toddler preferred)
  • 175 days of experience in an early childhood licensed classroom, or ECE field course work from an accredited college or university
  • A child development teacher permit or a regular children's center permit
  • Teacher Eligibility Testing
    • Early Education Center Teaching Examination
    • Writing Sample
    • Interview

OR

  • A Multiple Subjects Credential with 12 Child Development Units and 3 Units Field Experience
  • Early Education Center Teacher Examination
  • English Usage Examination

Substitute Teacher

Employment Requirements:

  • AA degree or 60 semester units of coursework from an accredited college or university
  • A Child Development Associate Teacher Permit
  • 3 semester units of English: college reading and composition
  • 12 semester units of child development course work
  • 50 days of experience in an early childhood licensed classroom, or ECE Field Course Work from an accredited college or university
  • Teacher Eligibility Testing
    • Early Education Center Teaching Examination
    • Writing Sample
    • Interview

Classified Positions

ECE Aide I

Assists a teacher in the supervision and implementation of developmental instructional activities for preschool and/or school-age children. Assists in providing experience to promote the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and language development of children.

Qualifications

  • Applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • Applicant must provide verification of high school graduation, or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.

To apply for this position:

Download ECE Aide I Application and submit it along with original high school diploma, GED, or original transcripts showing 12 semester units of college course work with a grade of “C” or better. Transcripts for course work taken outside of the United States must be evaluated by an accredited/approved agency. You may click here for a list of those agencies.

ECE Aide II

Assists a teacher in the supervision and implementation of developmental instructional activities for preschool and/or school-age children. Assists in providing experience to promote the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and language development of children.

Assists a teacher in evaluating and assessing the progress and developmental levels of children

Qualifications

  • Applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • Applicant must provide verification of high school graduation, or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.
  • Twelve semester college units in early childhood course work from an accredited college or university. These courses must include Child Growth and Development and Child and Family Relations plus programs/curriculum classes.
  • Early Education Center Aide II Examination

Experience:

One year of experience as an Early Education Center Aide I.
