The Single Subject English District Intern Program may not be available for the '09-'10 school year. Further notice will be available mid-March 2009.

District Interns in Secondary Single Subjects for English, Math, Math Foundations, Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences and Physics enroll in the Professional Development Plan leading to the Preliminary California Credential and a Clear California Credential.

District Interns begin the Professional Development Plan with the pre-requisite 240 clock hours of pre-service training provided before entering the classroom. Classes are held on Monday evenings and selected Saturdays. All content, formerly a part of the CLAD certificate, is now incorporated in the teacher preparation program.

Completion requirements for the Teacher Preparation phase include passage of the Teaching Performance Assessments (TPA) by the end of the 18 months in order to be recommended for the Single Subject Preliminary California Credential. Following the Teacher Preparation phase is an additional 18 months to complete the Teacher Induction phase in order to be recommended for the Clear California Credential.

The Early Completion Option (ECO -Fast Track) for Single Subjects provides an opportunity to earn the California Prelimary Credential in one year. In addition to meeting the pre-employment requirements for the general District Intern Program, passage of the appropriate ETS Teaching Foundations exam must be completed prior to entering the program. Candidates who culminate from the Early Completion Option (ECO-Fast Track) Program will matriculate into the District Intern Induction Program which leads to the California Clear Credential.

The District Intern Program is tuition-free for those who culminate, are recomended for a credential, and serve within the District for one additional year.
