The Multiple Subject Intern Program (including Middle School Core) is not available for the 2009-2010 or 2010-2011 school years.

District Interns in Elementary, Bilingual Elementary in Spanish and Middle School Core enroll in the Professional Development Plan leading to the Preliminary California Credential and a Clear California Credential.

District Interns begin the Professional Development Plan with the pre-requisite 240 clock hours of pre-service training provided before entering the classroom. Classes are held on Thursday evenings and selected Saturdays (Middle School Core District Interns also attend selected Mondays). All content which was formerly a part of the CLAD certificate, is now incorporated in the teacher preparation program.

District Interns in the Bilingual Elementary in Spanish Program must attend an additional 120 clock hours of training conducted during the second summer. Bilingual Elementary District Interns earn the Preliminary California Credential with BCLAD Emphasis and a Clear California Credential with BCLAD Emphasis.

Completion requirements for the Teacher Preparation phase include passage of the Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA) and the Teaching Performance Assessments (TPA) by the end of the 18 months in order to be recommended for the Multiple Subjects Preliminary California Credential. Following the Teacher Preparation phase is an additional 18 months to complete the Teacher Induction phase to be recommended for the Clear California Credential.

The Early Completion Option (ECO -Fast Track) for Multiple Subjects provides an opportunity to earn the California Prelimary Credential in as little as six months. In addition to meeting the pre-employment requirements for the general District Intern Program, passage of the appropriate ETS Teaching Foundations exam must be completed prior to entering the program. Candidates who culminate from the Early Completion Option (ECO-Fast Track) Program will matriculate into the District Intern Induction Program which leads to the California Clear Credential.

The District Intern Program is tuition-free for those who culminate, are recomended for a credential, and serve within the District for one additional year.
