Pre-Service Orientation Proves to Benefit Interns

All District Intern candidates must attend a 6-week Pre-Service Orientation; CENTSE District Intern candidates attend a 4-week Pre-Service Orientation.  During Orientation, candidates learn classroom management strategies, lesson planning, district policies and have the opportunity to observe a credentialed teacher in the classroom.  This training is crucial before entering the classroom.
Orientation is organized in subject cohorts so that candidates may collaborate with those who will be teaching the same content.

Teach full-time while earning your credential with the Los Angeles Unified School District Intern Program.

Passing the CBEST and CSET

All District Interns must pass the CBEST and CSET.  The CBEST is a basic skills test that covers mathematics, writing and reading comprehension.  The CSET is a subject matter examination.  The subject a candidate wishes to teach determines which CSET to take.  For example, to teach Biology one must pass the CSET Single Subject Biology Subtests: 118,119, 120.  For further information regarding which CSET to take, please contact our office at 213-241-5581.  To register for the exam or view samples of the exams, please visit
www.ctcexams.nesinc.com.
The CSET is a challenging exam and will probably require preparation.  LAUSD offers prep courses.  Please visit our website at www.teachinla.com/smp or call 213-241-4140.
Teachers who wish to teach Single Subject or Special Education Mild-to-Moderate at the secondary level may be exempt from the CSET with a Subject Matter Waiver.  To obtain a Subject Matter Waiver, please contact a California university.
Those who need assistance in passing the CBEST, should contact a university.  Most colleges and universities offer prep classes or tutoring for this exam.
