California Administrative Services Credential
An earned Master’s Degree or higher degree from an accredited institution
Master Plan and multicultural coursework (Out-of-District candidates have one year from the date of hire to complete these requirements.)
Minimum experience requirements

Out-of-District experience must  be verified on official letterhead from the Human Resources Division in the public school  district(s) in which you have been employed.  The letter(s) must state:

-  Employment dates

-  Position (s) held

-  Location (s)

-  Indicate whether full-time or part-time service.

Letters of reference are also required from your principal(s)/supervisor(s) for the past five years of employment.

State legislation requires all out-of-state candidates seeking California certification to pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). If you possess a California administrative credential, but have not worked in a California public school within the past 39 months, you also will be required to take and pass this examination.  To obtain information regarding filing dates, locations, and fees contact (916) 928-4001 or check their website at www.cbest.nesinc.com.

If you are from out-of-state and interested in California certification, you may contact the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing toll-free (888) 921-2682 or check their website at www.ctc.ca.gov.  The Commission will determine if you meet State credentialing requirements based on your experience and university coursework.

Salary ranges for principal and assistant principal positions vary by school location.  Compensation is based upon several factors including school type (e.g. elementary/secondary), school calendar (e.g. traditional/year round), and management challenge (e.g. staff size/activities and programs).  Refer to the Master Salary Table for current salary ranges. Elementary assistant principals are in the range of schedules 37/38; elementary principals are schedule 40-44; secondary assistant principals are schedule 39/40; and secondary principals are schedule 44-47.
