Important Information Regarding Salary Credits:  The District expects that each Teacher planning to take any future coursework at any institution conduct due diligence to ensure that the coursework offered meets the standards set forth in the LAUSD/UTLA contract under Article XV, Section 3.0.  A salary point shall be a semester unit as defined by the University of California.  The equivalent of a University of California semester unit requires 15 contact hours with an instructor plus 30 hours of outside preparation; a quarter unit requires 10 contact hours with an instructor and 20 hours of outside preparation. One quarter unit is equivalent to 2/3 of a semester unit or .667 of a semester unit.  Distance learning programs that rely predominantly on print-based correspondence will continue to be denied for salary point credit.  These requirements were established to ensure that teachers continue their professional development by being engaged in rigorous and scholarly graduate level work. This work must enhance the teacher's classroom practice and include research as well as instruction in methodology and pedagogy. (updated 08/2012)
